Michael L. Howard, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Howard has always believed in having balance in life. This philosophy began early in his education and was demonstrated when he won the Nassau/Queens Counties Scholar-Athlete Award. Dr. Howard went on to Duke University. There he was a member of the NCAA Division I Duke University Varsity Track Team throughout college. Academically, he was a finalist in the Early Identification Program for medicine, where he developed a curriculum that combined focuses in religious studies, philosophy and chemistry.
He graduated in 1987 and went on to medical school at the University of Pittsburgh. During his time in Pittsburgh he helped organize a comprehensive book for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The book explained the diseases the Foundation had encountered. It took complex medical information and simplified the terminology to be understood by non-medical volunteers. This helped Dr. Howard develop the skills to better communicate with his patients. He then continued his training at New York University Medical Center, completing his internship in General Surgery and residency in Urology.
The combination of Dr. Howard’s religious and philosophical training has helped him better treat the total patient not just the illness. He has worked hard to listen to his patients, to treat them with the utmost respect and to educate them about their urologic disorders in a way that is easy to understand and not threatening. Dr. Howard has always believed that it is his job to educate a patient. Then, with proper guidance, the patient can make the best decision for him/herself.
Dr. Howard treats patients with all urologic conditions and has been voted “Nurses Choice Physician of the Year” at Ocean Medical Center.
Dr. Howard has been happily married since 1999. He and his wife live in Monmouth County with their 3 children and black standard poodle. Dr. Howard is an avid athlete and runner. He has run the New York City Marathon and has competed in multiple Triathlons.
